How could we make a list about winter sun and not include Dubai? As a hub for international trading and investment, you can imagine how Dubai combines modern city living, beaches and the desert. Going at any time of the year would be amazing. Everything on Christmas Day is open for business including malls, bars, and restaurants.
Follow your Christmas fantasies by letting the lights lead you to the Irish Village which is hosting a jubilant tree lighting event, with many more smaller tree lighting events taking place all across the city. If you want something more traditional for your winter escape, then the Madinat Jumeirah is hosting a traditional German Christmas market.
Dubai is prepping for Christmas and, even if you don’t celebrate it, it’ll be hard not to be immersed in the festivities. Spending the holidays in Dubai is a treat as the city is brimming with extravagant people and rich in culture. If you feel like you need some good, old fashioned retail therapy then Dubai has the second largest shopping centre in the world. The Dubai Mall is an impressive 13 million square feet of luxury shopping and filled with plenty of tourist places such as an aquarium, underwater zoo, a virtual reality park, an astonishing 22 screen cinema and even a rainforest cafe that couples the natural beauty of the rainforest with Dubai’s culture of wealth.
If you’re indecisive about whether spending this winter in the sun or wishing for a white Christmas then Dubai will have you catered for. Ski Dubai is the first indoor ski resort in the middle east which features an impressive 22,500 square meters of snow-covered terrain and five slopes of varying difficulty. With the ability to meet some rare Gentoo and King Penguins, alongside a package to meet and greet Santa which is a bonus for the kids. Dubai is truly a place that has it all.
Mustique is unlike any other island in the Caribbean, it’s a paradise and is rooted in contemporary history. Lord Glenconner acquired the island in 1958 for $67,500 and has been developing the island ever since. The island is very exclusive with it being limited to only 120 villas. In 1976, Glenconner sold the island and now the owners of the villas run the island.
The island has various note-worthy homeowners such as Mick Jagger, Tommy Hilfiger, and Felix Dennis. The main draw of Mustique is that there are no rules. As promoted on their website “There are no rules on Mustique, no protocols or expectations. Guests can simply do as they wish.” This really sounds like a rockstar’s paradise where you can indulge yourself in legendary house parties, cocktail parties, and beach barbeques. Even David Bowie once owned a villa here and sold it quoting “the house was so tranquil and peaceful that I found it hard to get any work done.”
Activities in Mustique include swimming and scuba diving in the jewel-coloured waters as well as sailing and snorkeling with the turtles at nearby Tobago Cays. You can take up horse riding on the shore, strut on the sands of the island’s beautiful beaches, recreate a classic Serena Williams swing on the tennis courts or lose yourself in a world-class spa treatment.
For its holiday offering, Mustique has a calendar full of events from the 15th of December to the 7th of January, with events catering for the whole family. If you’re looking to get away from the cold this winter, this paradise would be an ideal location.
If you want to get away from the cold in the holidays then you shouldn’t look any further than Australia, receiving an average of 261 days of sunshine each year garnering the nickname ”The Sunshine State”.
With more than 200 beautiful national parks to let your wanderlust run wild, you’ll never want to stop exploring this naturally awe-inspiring place. Boasting a coastline right next to the largest living organism on Earth, “The Great Barrier Reef”, which has amazing coastal scenery and coral life, cementing Queensland’s place as the top destination for amazing views, good weather and a lot of sunshine.
During New Year, you can go to the Woodford Folk Festival, an iconic culture, music and arts environment and performance event, with around 438 acts and 35 venues.
Queensland makes for a sun-soaked holiday with plenty of activities to do and many sights to see on the golden coasts of Australia. Could this be the location for your next getaway?
These are just a few of the places that we think you’ll love to visit this winter. It’s time to ditch the big duvets and winter coats for shorts, t-shirts, and sunscreen.
