Vertis Aviation makes sparkles at first Sapphire Pegasus Awards

11 November 2015 - Vertis Aviation went on a winning streak at the inaugural Sapphire Pegasus Business Aviation Awards presented in Prague on Friday 8th April. Erica Da Veiga, founder and partner of Vertis Aviation, was presented with the Women in Aviation prize marking her outstanding contribution to developing two of the industries most successful independent companies, aircraft brokerage 28 East and ultra-long range charter specialist Vertis Aviation. Vertis Aviation also won the Innovation in Business Aviation category.

VVertis Aviation makes sparkles at first Sapphire Pegasus Awards

Erica’s career in aviation began in 1997 when she joined Jet Aviation before moving to Pilatus in Switzerland where she used her persistence and determination to be taken seriously in what was clearly a male dominated environment. She proved to herself and others that she could manage, despite the determination of tricky clients to initially focus on her youth and the fact that she was not a male. She wanted to run her own business and she had the opportunity in 2009 she moved to Glaronia Aviation, from Comlux Aviation where she’d been heading up charter sales, as a Partner and Managing Director responsible for operations. In 2010 she launched Vertis Aviation with her partners Luca Madone and Jeffrey Emmenis.

She says she has always fitted into the male dominated world of aviation by demonstrating she has the same skills, talent, tenacity and attributes to run the business. “Sometimes I think you have to try a little harder but if you earn the respect of your male colleagues you can achieve as much as the next person. (I think if you work hard, whether you are a woman or man, and earn the respect from your colleagues, you achieve as much as each other - something along those lines I love the industry and am thrilled to have been nominated for, and then received this award,” she said of the win. “It makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Vertis Aviation’s focus on providing an independent outsourced sales department for its partner operators grabbed the judge’s attention to win the Innovation in Business Aviation category. The business model, which has seen rapid growth for the company, ensures operators can concentrate on their core business of providing superior aircraft management services, whilst Vertis focuses on supporting their charter business. It also created its own customer service management software that supports the company’s “You can call us anytime” philosophy. This boutique approach to chartering long range aircraft has gone on to create a global business which in just six years has gone from a team of three partners and one employee with a single aircraft to market from a single office to a business with a team of sixteen, sitting in four international offices marketing fifteen aircraft. It has changed the way operators think about marketing long-range aircraft, and ensured customers are treated as individuals with their own independent requirements taken care of. “We like to think that we have opened a market for the smaller operators that manage long range aircraft, and that we have handled a passenger request before they even know they need something,” says Veiga about their unique approach, “this knowledge of passenger requirements supports the operating of the aircraft. The combination provides a seamless experience for all concerned. We’re a bit like swans, it all looks very calm on top but we are paddling like crazy beneath the surface.”

The awards have been designed to recognise and honour outstanding performances by companies and individuals in many aspects of Business Aviation and presented twelve accolades in total.

Vertis Aviation currently markets four Airbus A319 ACJ’s, a Boeing Business Jet BBJ1, Gulfstream G450, G550 and G650, a Boeing 727-VIP, Bombardier Global 6000, Bombardier Challenger 604, Bombardier Global XRS and two Global Express, Dassault Falcon 7X, Bombardier Learjet 45.

Vertis Aviation celebrates five-years anniversary at NBAA

11 November 2015 - Switzerland-based Vertis Aviation is marking its five-year anniversary this fall as it makes its second appearance at the National Business Aviation Association Convention (NBAA) in Las Vegas on Booth N5222. The company will be talking up its expanded ultra-long range fleet and its recent additions − a Gulfstream G650, Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), and an Airbus ACJ319, enabling Vertis to connect the USA with the rest of the world.

Vertis Aviation celebrates five-years anniversary at NBAA In Las Vegas, Vertis will be particularly promoting its brand new 2015 ACJ 319 which joined the fleet in April. With a range of 5500nm and a capacity to fly up to 13 hours non-stop, it has one of the longest ranges of any ACJ currently available for charter − making typical flights from Las Vegas to Paris or from New York to Buenos Aries easily within its reach.

The aircraft was jointly managed from concept through to delivery by 28 East (a partnership formed between Vertis Aviation and Germany-based aircraft management and operator, K5-Aviation) and has been designed specifically to meet the needs of the VIP charter client. The aircraft offers seating and/or sleeping for 19 passengers in a spacious and modern cabin. The 24-meter cabin is divided into four modular sections with excellent sound-proofing and a state-of-the-art humidification system. Adding to the comfort and convenience, all 19 fully lie-flat beds are certified for taxi-to-taxi so it is possible for guests to be sleeping during take-off and landing. For those passengers wanting to enjoy the IFE, the aircraft is equipped with a 55in LCD ‘cinema’ screen – the largest, certified screen in the sky, three 42-inch screens and two 24-inch screens offering the ultimate in inflight entertainment.

The jet is already in high demand in Europe and the Middle East from royalty, government, corporate and ultra-high net worth individuals. It is anticipated that this elite aircraft with its long-range capabilities and minute attention to detail will prove equally popular with the US market.

Vertis Aviation celebrates five-years anniversary at NBAAVertis Aviation’s 7000nm range Gulfstream G650, which joined the fleet last year, is also likely to prove a hit in the US. Configured for 12 passengers the jet features a luxurious, spacious interior with eight business seats in a four-place double club layout and six divan lie flat JetBeds. The long-range aircraft also has an exceptional state-of-the-art IFE and wifi connectivity. It has been an extremely popular addition to the fleet and already boasts a client list including government officials, heads of state, captains of industry and international celebrities. With a split base between the Bahamas and Geneva it is ideal for American clients regularly needing a long-range transatlantic option.

Vertis Aviation’s return to NBAA marks a milestone for the company who celebrated five years in business at a special event in London last month. The company launched in Zug, Switzerland by Jeffrey Emmenis, Erica Da Veiga and Luca Madone in 2010 with just two aircraft to market and one employee. The company now markets a 15 strong fleet of premium ultra-long range, large cabin aircraft, employs a team of 11. In addition to its Swiss headquarters, it has locations across the globe at Farnborough International Airport, UK, in the Free Zone of Dubai World Central and Johannesburg, South Africa, which opened earlier this year. Vertis is now exploring opportunities in the USA. With a fleet that regularly serves transatlantic routes to destinations such as Miami, New York and Los Angeles, it is perfectly placed to extend its operations to further serve the US market.

Neil Turnbull, COO at Vertis Aviation comments: “We regularly serve US East Coast destinations from Europe’s capital cities with our Gulfstream G650 and Bombardier Global Express and XRS. We understand the demands of the US market and anticipate that our ultra-long range, large cabin capabilities and our focus on attention to detail will serve us well in this market. The new ACJ319 is a perfect addition to our fleet and we look to explore further opportunities in the US. We are excited about sharing its attributes with delegates here on the booth at NBAA.”

Vertis Aviation currently markets four Airbus A319 ACJ’s, a Boeing Business Jet BBJ1, Gulfstream G450, G550 and G650, a Boeing 727-VIP, Bombardier Global 6000, Bombardier Global XRS and two Global Express, Dassault Falcon 7X, Bombardier Learjet 45.

Around the world in 28 days - Vertis Aviation completes first circumnavigation of the globe with BBJ

11 February 2015 - Switzerland-based Vertis Aviation, part of the independently owned aviation business the 28 East Group, has just completed its first Round-The-World leisure journey. The trip, which took four weeks to complete and involved eleven stops, was served by the latest aircraft addition to the Vertis portfolio, the Boeing Business Jet on behalf of a Middle Eastern client.

The route departed Riyadh then headed to the southern hemisphere taking in Cairns, Hamilton Island, Sydney, Queenstown, in Australasia before heading to Argentina landing at Mendoza and Buenos Aires. The final sectors took in the US cities of Dallas, Las Vegas and Los Angeles before heading east again to Paris and back to Riyadh. The Boeing Business Jet was chosen for the route owing to its capacity to serve the long sectors being flown. From an operational point of view the twelve-hour range capability of the jet reduced the number of required technical stops, whilst for the client the spacious private bedroom and excellent WiFi connectivity ensured maximum comfort throughout the flight. The clients also benefited from the excellent service of two flight attendants and a two Michelin star chef who accompanied the flight during the whole journey providing the clients with the finest quality cuisine.

This highly complex route required an immense amount of preparation and logistical planning in order to accommodate the client’s itinerary. The high number of sectors across the globe involved a number of crew changes, with further levels of complexity introduced owing to inclement weather and the client’s changing requirements.

“It was a challenging but successful trip, which we managed to execute to the customer’s satisfaction owing to our excellent relationship with Privajet who manage and operate the aircraft,” said Jeffrey Emmenis, Partner Vertis Aviation. “Fortunately Privajet is an efficient management company that understands the special requirements of our clients and they have the same boutique approach to maintaining the highest quality of service as Vertis, which is extremely important for us and our clients,” he added.

“From an operational and management point of view, the challenge with a trip such as this is to be able to control the costs, transparently, by anticipating the possible problems and finding the right solutions without compromising on the quality, safety, and customer satisfaction,” commented Jérôme Franier, Commercial Director of Privajet.

Privajet operates the Boeing Business Jet under management on its Maltese AOC. It anticipates expanding its boutique fleet in the near future to include further wide body aircraft and is already in discussion with owners of further BBJ, Airbus Corporate Jets and a range of Bombardier and Dassault models.

The BBJ that flew this journey features a luxurious, spacious interior with a full bedroom including queen-sized bed, two shower rooms, a six-place conference/dining room and two additional seating areas. This is complemented by a full state-of-the-art entertainment system with Wi-Fi, a full range of TV, films and music which are displayed on High Definition screens making it perfect for the four week Round-The-World leisure trip.

The aircraft forms part of the Vertis portfolio of aircraft which it markets exclusively on behalf of its operating partners which includes: Gulfstream G450, Gulfstream G650, Bombardier Global 6000, three Airbus ACJ corporate jets, Bombardier Global XRS aircraft, Bombardier Global Express, and a Dassault Falcon 7X.

Vertis takes on Africa as it joins the African Business Aviation Association

20 August 2014 - Vertis is delighted to announce that it has joined the increasingly, influential African Business Aviation Association – AfBAA. Vertis has successfully marketed a Global 6000 based in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the last year and is seeing increased interest in business departing and originating on the continent. Notably the Dubai office has seen requests for flights into Africa increase significantly over the last 8 months. The decision to join AfBAA was based on the understanding that with such a large continent to cover a grounded knowledge and expansive network will ensure it can provide the impeccable service that the company has become renowned for.

AfBAA was formed in May 2012 to represent the interests of Africa’s aircraft owners, operators, and suppliers to the Business Aviation community, in a single voice. Its primary objective is to promote the understanding and benefits that Business Aviation provides for the Continent’s economic development and prosperity through advocacy. These match the principles of Vertis well which are to sustainably grow and be an integral part of the international business aviation community.

"We are very selective about who we work with and on a continent as varied as Africa we want to be fully versed on all the opportunities. Being part of the AfBAA community will ensure that we are connected with the influencers and leading figures in African Business Aviation. In addition it will expand our existing network into new countries where we are only just beginning to work," said Jeffrey Emmenis, Vertis partner.

On a personal note two of the Vertis partners hail from the continent. Jeffrey Emmenis was raised in South Africa and Erica Da Veiga hails from Namibia, so to some extent for the company they are returning to their roots at an exciting time in Africa’s development.

The Global 6000 will be the company’s first jet actively marketed from an African location and further underpins Vertis’ strategy of creating an international network. Operated by a local corporate flight department Vertis anticipates that it will fulfil missions both inter- and intra-continentally to satisfy the expanding, discerning African client base seeking prestigious ultra – long range aircraft.

“We are very excited about the possibilities that this immaculate Global 6000 offers for our international charter clients. With its ultra-long range and short-field capabilities it is ideal for work on the African continent which requires aircraft that can cover vast distances. This addition marks the beginning of our expansion strategy in Africa which we believe offers great potential for further development. We’re already seeing a high demand for charters between Brazil and Angola, Lagos and Johannesburg, London and Johannesburg and anticipate the route map will just become more complex as the continent’s requirements expand,” commented Erica Da Veiga, partner at Vertis.

The 2012 Global 6000 which is configured with 14 seats features a contemporary and comfortable interior with ample galley, dedicated crew rest area and luxurious private stateroom. A full on-board communications suite features internet access and Wi-Fi connectivity along with a full IFE system. With a 6,000 nm range, 488 kt cruise speed and its brand new interior, Vertis expects the aircraft will prove popular with heads of state and government travel in addition to CEO’s and senior business executives needing comfortable, long range aircraft.

The Global 6000 follows hard on the heels of news that a Moscow, Russia-based Airbus A319 and a Bombardier Global XRS will be added to the Vertis fleet from next month. The three new aircraft will join the long range charter fleet which Vertis markets on behalf of its operating partners and features an existing Airbus A319 Corporate Jet, a Bombardier Global Express, Dassault Falcon 7X and a Global XRS.

Vertis Aviation adds two additional ultra-long range jet aircraft to fleet

Global XRS and Airbus ACJ 319 to be operated by K5 Aviation

Switzerland-based Vertis Aviation, part of the independently owned aviation business the 28 East Group, today announced a significant expansion to its exclusively marketed charter fleet with the addition of two new aircraft. The Airbus A319 Corporate Jet and the Bombardier Global XRS will be exclusively marketed and available for charter through Vertis Aviation AG from 1 August 2013. The aircraft, which are based at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, will strengthen Vertis’ offering for its Russian client base.

The 2012 Airbus which is configured with 19 seats recently won the award for ‘Best Private Jet Design’ at the 2013 International Yacht and Aviation Awards for its stylish interior which features neutral tones flowing through the cabin, lie flat business class beds and in seatback large TV screens. In addition an ‘L’ shaped sofa views one of the largest TV screens in the sky making the perfect family relaxation area. The six seat dining area leads on to he bedroom featuring a large double bed that can be converted to two singles, and leads through to an en-suite bathroom. With a range of 5,000 nm, it is luxuriously appointed and versatile interior, this elite aircraft is as well suited for heads of state and government travel as it is for families looking to travel in style.

The 2010 Bombardier Global XRS features a classically designed, spacious interior with 12 seats in a standard double club configuration. A full communications suite features internet access, Wi-Fi connectivity along with a full IFE system. The aft cabin features two single sofas that face each other so adding to passenger comfort, both of which can be used as single beds.

Both of the privately owned jets will be operated by one of Vertis’ existing operating partners, Germany-headquartered K5-Aviation GmbH. The operator offers aircraft management and charter services with a focus on Airbus and Bombardier long-range aircraft. The two new aircraft will join its existing Airbus A319 Corporate Jet and a Bombardier Global Express supporting its mission to operate a small number of aircraft types.

“Vertis is known as a provider of luxury jet charter for a predominantly leisure charter market so the addition of these two long range, stylish aircraft are a welcome addition to our portfolio. We anticipate that they will be very busy through the summer season and look forward to offering them to our select client base,” said Jeffrey Emmenis Partner at Vertis Aviation.

The two additional aircraft will join the long range charter fleet which Vertis markets exclusively on behalf of its operating partners and features an existing Airbus A319 Corporate Jet, a Bombardier Global Express, Dassault Falcon 7X and a Global XRS.

Vertis Aviation appoints Julian Burrell to run new London-based charter brokerage

Vertis Aviation announced today it has appointed Julian Burrell as Managing Director of its new London business which is due to launch in December 2012. Vertis Aviation UK Limited will be completely autonomous and run separately from the Zug-headquartered Vertis business. In the newly created role Julian will be responsible for managing the charter brokerage service.

With an aviation career spanning almost two decades, Julian brings extensive charter brokerage experience to the role having worked at Board level for a number of years with successful international charter broker The Charter Company. Erica Da Veiga, Vertis Aviation partner commented: "Julian's appointment as Managing Director of the new UK office demonstrates our continued commitment to adding real value to our business proposition. We understand that Vertis UK Ltd's charter clients need to have an independent point of contact to ensure they can access business jets most suitable for their client's mission. Charter brokers contacting Vertis Aviation in Zug for quotes on the fleet need to be assured of absolute discretion which is one of the reasons we have decided to take this move in setting up an independent charter brokerage."

Burrell commented: "This is an exciting opportunity for Vertis and my remit to manage an independent, dedicated brokerage division enables us to provide an even greater breadth of offering to our direct clients."

28 East Group celebrates second successful year

Independently owned, Swiss aviation holding company 28 East Group, led by partners Luca Madone, Jeffrey Emmenis, and Erica Da Veiga, is celebrating its second anniversary this month. Based in Zug, Switzerland, the expanding business has achieved a number of major milestones through its second year of operations which has served to make it one of Switzerland’s most diverse aviation companies.

January 2012 saw 28 East Group successfully purchase air charter company Vertis Aviation outright from Swiss private jet company, Glaronia Aviation. In the first quarter of the year Vertis Aviation increased the number of business jets it markets exclusively with the addition of a Bombardier Global XRS; this was followed in the second quarter by a Bombardier Global Express in June. Vertis Aviation now offers four aircraft for charter, a Dassault Falcon 7X, an Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) and the Global Express and Global XRS. It focuses specifically on selecting jets for charter that can provide ultra-long range services. Notably the Global Express operated by German-based K5 was given ETOPS 180 status (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards) on 19 November 2012. This confirmed that each of the aircraft Vertis markets can now offer extended distance performance so enabling it to offer a broader range of global destinations to its clients. Vertis also has plans to add a further three aircraft to its portfolio in 2013.

Sky Dragon Pacific completions App joins portfolio

Adding to its diverse portfolio, the 28 East Group is now marketing a new product, Sky Dragon. The Hong Kong-based joint venture between 28 East Group and corporate financier, Matthias Karl, is an iPad ‘app’ which serves as a project management tool which enables completion managers to share project progress directly with their clients. Through an innovative use of app technology those working on the completion project can upload progress reports such as documents, photographs and videos enabling the aircraft owner to keep up to date, anywhere in the world during an aircraft green completion or refurbishment project. A number of major international aviation companies are currently in discussions with 28 East Group with a view to trialling the product and 28 East Group is looking at other sectors that could also maximise the technology such as the architectural and yachting markets. Sky Dragon is available directly from the Apple store (Sky Dragon Aero) or it can be pre-loaded onto an iPad by completion managers.

This Autumn, 28 East Services, which is the consultancy arm of the group, completed a complex pre-buy inspection for a European Learjet 60 that was sold and delivered into Southeast Asia. The division offers specialist advice and support services relating to aircraft acquisitions, sales, aircraft management, financial auditing and asset management for a range of aircraft. It also provides special project management services for complex or unusual refurbishments.

"We are more than satisfied with the way the 28 East Group strategy has developed over the last year,” commented Luca Madone. “We have reached our goals and aims for this year and have consolidated our foundations for further growth. Year three is already set to have an inspired selection of new business join the portfolio,” he added.

Looking forward...

Early December will see Vertis Aviation open a new Kensington, London office offering charter brokerage services to its growing client base. Julian Burrell will start working with Vertis Aviation as Managing Director on 1 January 2013. Vertis Aviation UK Limited will be completely autonomous and run as a separate entity from the Zug-headquartered Vertis charter business and has been designed to support its UK client base.

28 East Group will also be adding to its portfolio of aviation services in the next few months with the anticipated acquisition of a fuel brokerage business currently in process and a number of other aviation projects undergoing review.
